A new Gimp for Windows
6 July 2001
Gimp is traditionally seen as the PhotoShop replacement on Linux. The new version of the package (Gimp 1.2.26) is a win32 port — a complete and stable port of the program from Linux. A sea of bugs has been fixed; the functionality is mostly the same as in the Linux version.
Gimp supports a huge number of graphic formats, including Adobe Photoshop’s (the “psd” extension).
Other goodies: layers and channels, an unlimited number of simultaneously open images, a good toolset, plug-in support (more than 100 exist so far), scripting and so on.
