TelevisionPublisher — automated TV listings layout
5 September 2002
Every typesetter who has ever dealt with TV listings has surely wondered how to automate that tedious, repetitive work.
A Russian-language program, TelevisionPublisher, has appeared online; it automates the following tasks:
-
publishing listings in the formats you need — plain text, RTF, HTML, Adobe Pagemaker Tagged Text, Quark XPress Tags or Xtags for Quark XPress, Adobe InDesign Tagged Text and others;
-
applying formatting according to the accepted house styles;
-
taking into account air time, the genre of films and programmes, and accompanying information (a teaser or comments);
-
transforming the listings text according to your requirements;
-
making corrections, replacements and sorting of listings text according to user-defined rules;
-
merging and splitting listings according to user-defined rules — all in one, files by day of the week, files by channel, separately for each channel and each day and so on;
-
writing and applying scripts in JavaScript.
Thanks to Java technology, TelevisionPublisher runs on any platform.
Demo limitation: each channel’s output contains only 10 programmes.
